How might we improve the state of civic engagement in higher education? The Rockefeller Foundation funded us to answer this question. Over the course of a year we followed five cases of civic engagement work across the New School campus, investigating everything from finance to pedagogy, covering projects in different stages of development. Working with a team of anthropologists we conducted over 100 in depth interviews and frequent participant observations to capture and synthesize data on five research cases. The resulting report was filed directly with the university provost and president, and circulated to all faculty, staff and students across the university campus.
